An Introduction

When Batman: The Animated Series premiered in 1992 it changed everything. Initially created to capitalize on the success of Tim Burton's Batman films, the show went on to garner critical praise and establish an enduring legacy of its own. The show took the best aspects of every version of Batman- the movies, prior cartoons, the comics- and synthesized them into something that was instantly iconic. It was at once both a summation of everything Batman had ever represented as well as a bold, distinct new vision of the character in its own right.

Last year, Warner Bros. released a commemorative Blu-Ray collection of the entire series. This presented me- someone who was too young to have seen the show in its initial airing- to finally experience this beloved classic from beginning to end. I've decided to share that journey with you. I'll be going chronologically through the entire series- all 109 episodes- as well as the various movies based on the show, reviewing every single installment. It's going to be a massive undertaking, but one that will hopefully be worthwhile. I'll be posting the text versions of the reviews here, as well as video versions on my new YouTube channel at https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCcsqv23lhSQ-4tB-FtsDbfg?&ab_channel=GothamArchives (this URL will be updated when I'm eligible for a custom URL). If you would like to watch along with me, the first two seasons are available for streaming on the DC Universe streaming app, or you can purchase digital versions of the entire series on iTunes, Google Play, Amazon Video, and other major digital video providers. You can also pick up the Blu-Ray or DVD versions at most major retailers. Please support the official release!

I'll be back soon with season 1, episode 1: "On Leather Wings".
